A Labelling Challenge Rooted in Family Tradition

“Most of our olive trees are two to three hundred years old,” Ben shared. “There’s a lot of sustainability here, a lot of very stable farming practices, and a lot of respect for nature and the environment.”

Lola’s journey of bringing her family’s delicately crafted olive oil to rural Hampshire after marrying Ben in 2004 inspired the brand’s creation. “The name comes from the combination of two cultures and one lifestyle,” Ben explained.

This unique cultural blend and passion for their product demanded labels that told a compelling story, communicated quality, and aligned with Two&One’s values.

Overcoming the Demands of the UK Market

Despite their exceptional product, Ben and Lola faced significant hurdles entering the UK market. They needed labels that matched their olive oil’s premium quality while reflecting their values of sustainability and heritage.

The brief was clear: Two&One needed labels that highlighted their product’s Spanish heritage while conveying a sense of premium quality. These labels also had to meet a practical challenge – resisting direct contact with olive oil while maintaining their pristine appearance.

The brand also wanted to convey a distinct Britishness, a core part of their values. “We’re trying, increasingly, to do as much as we can in the UK,” Ben explained. “That was one point. We want all of the packaging associated with our premium product to be premium, as well.”

Autajon Labels Royston – A Trusted Partner

Ben and Lola turned to Autajon Labels Royston, a leader in label production with a reputation for excellence. “Our marketing team introduced us to Royston,” Ben explained. “We met with other people, but we were really impressed with Royston.”

Royston leveraged their expertise to produce a range of labels tailored to Two&One’s needs. Their labels for the 250ml Signature Range were printed on Avery Dennison Rustique Greaseproof stock, ensuring excellent adhesion and resistance to olive oil. The HP digital printing process brought the labels to life, using complementary khaki, gold, and mauve colours to distinguish between the three olive harvests: Verde in October, Envero in November, and Negra in December.

“They were great in explaining different options, different technology, and materials we could use,” Ben said. “They were really helpful because we were fresh to this.”

A Collaborative Approach to Perfection

The Royston team quickly got to work, setting up calls within days and delivering samples within three days. This hands-on approach helped Two&One visualise their brand’s potential. “Within three days after that, we had a batch of sample labels,” Ben recalled. “They shared previous work and sent us some examples.”

The collaboration included detailed bottle measurements to ensure a perfect fit and advice on design features. “The bottles are conical, and that makes it more complicated,” Ben said. “Royston said to us that you’re going to find that hard… Our advice would be to make it one [label rather than two]. And I have to say, again, that was really, really good advice.”

This early guidance proved invaluable, allowing Two&One to avoid pitfalls in their label design and enabling their marketing team to create an elegant solution.

Crucially, the Royston team’s honesty helped Two&One prioritise their budget. “They said, ‘You could spend this money with us, but we would say, you know, don’t do it yet.’ We really appreciated that.”

Labels That Tell a Story and Perform Beautifully

The final labels were a triumph – paper-based, oil-resistant, and visually stunning. “We get so many compliments about the quality of the packaging and the design,” Ben shared. “People would just come along to our stand and just stand in front of the bottles and say, ‘Wow, I love your packaging.’”

The labels’ colours not only distinguished between the olive harvests but reinforced the premium perception of the product. With a combination of aesthetics and practicality, these labels made Two&One’s olive oil range stand out.

“We want all the packaging associated with our premium product to be premium as well,” Ben said. Today, Two&One’s olive oil is stocked in over 40 locations across the UK, earning widespread praise for its taste and packaging.

The Labelling Partner That Goes Beyond Labels

Reflecting on their experience, Ben couldn’t speak highly enough of Royston. “They absolutely know what they’re doing,” he said. “Their attention to detail and customer service skills are strong.”

When asked if he’d recommend Royston, Ben didn’t hesitate: “Absolutely, without any doubt. The quality is there, and the partnership has been phenomenal.”
